Overview of good maintenance practices for rubber pads

Overview:

What is a squeegee blade?Strange word aside, this rubber pad is arguably one of the most important components of floor scrubbers. In the simplest terms: the squeegee blade is a piece of rubber, polyurethane (PU), PARA or NEOPR material that is connected to the back and / or side of the scrubber machine and collects water from the floor so that the vacuum fan absorbs the liquid when the floor cleaning machine passes over it. The combination of the squeegees, the suction rail and the vacuum fan enables optimal water absorption.

The squeegee blade is a critical part of the machine's water management system, leaving a clean, and more importantly, dry and safe floor. A non-slip floor that prevents accidents from falling is one of the most common workers' compensation claims, according to the EHS Daily Advisor.

If the squeegee is not properly maintained, floor brushes can leave streaks, debris or water behind, resulting in rework and wasted time, which means extra money.

The materials of the squeegee rubber:

Floor cleaning pads can be made from a variety of materials, such as rubber and urethane, and each material has properties that are ideal for certain types of floors or environments.

The lowest cost with rubber squeegee inlays, which helps you save money during replacement. These rubber pads are slightly stiffer and recommended for smooth and even indoor floors. Rubber suction cups are not resistant to chemical substances.

Polyurethane lubricants are resistant to chemicals, i.e. ideal for cleaning organic and petroleum-based oils.

Exchange and Maintenance:

While rubber pads may be one of the most frequently replaced parts of your floor cleaning equipment, there are many things you can do to keep them in optimal condition for as long as possible to reduce replacement costs.

Rotate the squeegee blade for longer life. If you keep rotating the squeegee based on wear, you can achieve longer use with a single blade. Rubber pad wear depends on the material of the squeegee and the type and condition of the floor. Check the condition of the squeegee daily and rotate or replace the blade when it is half worn.

Replace the squeegee before they lose their cleaning power. When you notice that the edge of your rubber pad is starting to wear, rotate it in time and after the 4. also started using edge, get a new rubber pad for possible replacement. When you believe that the suction rubber already needs to be replaced, do it as soon as possible so you can always clean with a high-performance squeegee and not sacrifice cleanliness and safety on the altar of savings.

For optimal performance, buy quality inserts for your machine. Dodgy-looking or third-party rubber pads are not specifically designed for your cleaning machine and may not provide the cleaning quality you want.

Although the squeegee blades look almost the same, don't be fooled by the lower priced part - you'll spend more in the long run replacing poorly made squeegees than buying OEM squeegees.

Possibility of error:

Make sure the entire tire is under even pressure. A properly positioned rubber pad has uniform pressure from tip to tip, and set on the floor at such an angle that the rubber inlay scrapes through the floor on the inside for optimal water absorption.

If the pressure is too high, the rubber pad breaks and does not absorb water properly.

How to solve the most common squeegee problems:

1.) The rubber insert does not absorb water in the middle.
The amount of pressure applied to the rubber blade should be adjusted to ensure an even distribution along the entire length, preventing the center of the blade from being higher than the edges. Read the owner's manual to understand how to best adjust the machine insole.

2.) The rubber pad does not absorb water at the edges.
As with the example above, adjustments may need to be made to ensure that the squeegee pulls the floor at the correct angle. Read the owner's manual to understand how to best adjust the machine insole.

3.) Stripes remain on the ground.
In this case, it is likely that there is dirt or debris on the squeegee, which is why the squeegee does not touch the floor perfectly. To fix, lift the rubber pad and wipe it with a clean cloth or sponge to remove debris.

By choosing the right rubber sheet for your environment and maintaining it properly, you can save money and time in replacement costs and rework.

Maximize your squeegee: 5-Point checklist:

The rubber pad is an integral part of the cleaning machine, which maximizes the collection and absorption of liquid. Proper alignment helps reduce machine downtime and servicing, saving you time and money.

Each 30-minute extra cleaning costs ~170 euros per month, which is approx. The company may lose EUR 2000.*

Here are five things to check to make sure you're using a high-quality squeezee on your sweeper:

1.) Cutting:

Make sure that the absorbent squeegee you buy are of the right quality, that is, they are precisely cut around, because this is the only way to ensure a tight seal, which results in better water absorption.

2.) Attachment holes:

Make sure the rubber pads you buy are designed specifically for your particular type of cleaner, as holes that are set differently can lead to stretching and tearing.

3.) Seam:
A bad stitch can lead to excessive movement of the rubber insole and an increased chance of falling.

4.) Angle:
The angle at which the rubber pad contacts the floor changes the water absorption.

5.) Material:
Choosing the right material is essential for effective water control and absorption.
